LISBON The Columbiana County Board of Elections certified 15 independent candidate petitions for the November general election, completing the list of partisan candidates that will appear on the ballot.
Director Kim Fusco presented the board with all 15 petitions during the Wednesday afternoon board meeting and said that all the candidates met the necessary requirements for candidacy.
The filing deadline for candidate’s intent to run as a write-in candidate is Aug. 23 by 4 p.m. Fusco said that vacant positions will be appointed by village and city councils at their first meetings after the election on Nov. 2.
Following is a complete list of certified partisan candidates, including the 15 newly certified independent candidates:

John Cronin names Susan Templeton, others, to new Senate staff

State Senator-elect John Cronin (D-Worcester-Middlesex) announced his Senate staff and encourages constituents to contact them with any concerns, issues or suggestions. I m excited to build a great team that has both the experience and energy to effectively respond to the needs of constituents from all eleven communities in the district, Cronin said prior to his swearing in on Jan. 6.
Susan Templeton will serve as district director. A longtime Sterling resident, now living in Leominster, Templeton served as staff director for retired State Rep. Harold Naughton. Prior to this, Templeton served as vice president of the North Central Chamber of Commerce and, prior to that, the Wachusett Chamber of Commerce, in Clinton. She will be the liaison with local officials and organizations and assist Cronin in meeting the needs of the district.
Cronin, Kilcoyne and Kushmerek, newcomers in state Legislature, lay out visions

Cronin, 30, of Lunenburg takes over as senator from the Worcester and Middlesex District.
In November, Cronin defeated Republican incumbent Dean Tran of Fitchburg in the general election. The seat covers Fitchburg, Gardner, Leominster, Berlin, Bolton, Clinton Precincts 1 and 2, Lancaster, Lunenburg, Sterling, Westminster and Townsend
After joining the military at 19, Cronin attended West Point and was commissioned as an infantry officer, serving two tours in Afghanistan. He was discharged honorably as a captain in 2018. After his time in Afghanistan, Cronin did legal advocacy work for veterans at a legal services center in Jamaica Plain.
